Amanda’s paintings are based on her emotional connection to nature. The love of the local landscape is deeply rooted, stemming from her childhood and farming background. All works are based on the memory and spirituality of places: landscapes evolve through the use of a palette of seasonal colours. The seascapes derive from a passion for the sea, driven by the beauty and mystery of its depths.

Initially, Amanda has no conclusive image in her mind, only selecting colours that linger from walks in the countryside. The work then evolves. It is built up; often alternating layers of thick rich impasto with swirling thin glazes. Marks are made as interpretations of nature rather than direct representations of landscape. There are suggestions of earth, air, water and life in the compositions. Every canvas retains its individuality but is linked through a history of mark making, pushing painterly boundaries though application and mixing media.

The seemingly ambiguous nature of the work is an invitation for the viewer to translate each piece, kindling an individual experience.
